Earth Music

Ross is a guitarist, producer, and composer based in Lawrence, KS. He draws from disparate sonic realms: the alternate tunings of Sonic Youth, the melodies of Andy Mckee, and the mystical power of Jack Rose and Led Zeppelin.

Earth Music was born from a revelation: abandon all cleverness, analysis, and adherence to form. Follow only the emotional undercurrent of the sound, and surrender to whatever process it takes to realize the work. No one need hear or even know about it. Transformation through devotion, for its own sake.

The songs on Earth Music took years to write. Each went through months of iteration, moving between sheet music and the fretboard, passing through radically different versions before arriving at their final form. In recording, the process inverted: years of composing compressed into single takes, no overdubs. Nothing between the guitar and the listener.
